Dentists - confused about services

I am trying to get my daughter booked in for a routine dental check up. When I called the surgery I was told the dentist can only offer urgent treatment and routine checkups are still on hold. Any idea when things might be back to normal? It's strange as my other daughter is having her routine orthodontist check up .... confused?!

There is no set date. It depends on practice. Mine offer routine check ups, tooth extraction and thats it.

No fillings or root canals

So private practices are offering more.

I get emails from my dentist apologising for not being able to get back to routine checkups, but they're still working through the backlog of people with pain and can't see as many people in a day as they have to leave 1 hour breaks in between appointments

Ours has been doing routine check ups since July but no treatment or electric cleaning.

Mine is private and has installed lots of ventilation equipment, air clearing mists, etc etc so is offering service 'as usual'.
