Quick question re urine test

Hi

Is there any way it is possible to get an accurate urine test when you have your period?

I'm only spotting now, and cleaned before doing the test, but got a strong (+++) result for blood in my urine. I have pain in my kidney and a tendency towards regular UTI's so I'm a smidge paranoid, but I have no pain on urination. I was hoping for an accurate idea before speaking to the dr, but don't know if the potential small amount of period blood has contaminated my sample, or if I am indeed pissing large quantities of blood?

If the blood had contaminated it, does anyone know if that would be eg a small positive rather than a large, or is large possible?

I'm immunocompromised, so would rather not wait a few days before retesting (and chance being neenawed off to the hospital with sepsis again!)...

Thanks :)

I can't help much sorry but could you hand it in and mention that you're on your period, though I would assume it wouldn't contaminate it too much

I'm testing it myself - no need to hand it in as I have the same strips here that the gp uses, and they are unlikely to send it off for culture anyway (of course if they wanted to, I'd send a sample in)

I’m not sure if there is a way or not, but I did a urine test once when I was in hospital to check for uti and it showed no infection but blood in my urine. I was on my period but didn’t have a uti. I would think it’s probably hard to test without it showing.

Funnily enough the time I was hospitalised I had my period, but then my diagnosis was before a culture anyway, as I wasn't passing any urine at all

I'll try again in the morning, hopefully the last dregs of period blood will be gone by then

Sorry I should have said, I was in hospital for something unrelated but felt like I might have a uti coming on so asked them to do a dip test. That’s when they told me no infection but traces of blood.

I’ve never had a kidney infection before but when my mum had one she said she didn’t have pain but felt wiped out tired.

Take care of yourself OP, I know that if you say yes you’re having flank pain then drs are keen to get you seen but appreciate that you don’t want to go down that route unnecessarily.
