Extremely weird reaction after take away?

I had a chicken pad Thai on Tuesday (ordered from local takeaway on Just Eat.) I only ate about 1/3 of it but within 15 mins my heart started racing, I felt sick, hot and feverish and like there was a slight constriction around my throat. I went to sleep after a while, but woke up in the night with similar symptoms on and off. Was sick yesterday (no upset stomach.) Been mostly OK today but still feel fatigued, with high heart rate and tingling in face and hands. I've been taking antihistamine once a day. Still feel a bit sick.

The only thing I can think is it might have been the shrimp/fish paste. I was once very sick after eating dumplings, which I think contained shrimp. I have to admit, stupidly, I didn't even look at the ingredients before ordering the pad Thai!

As I've still got symptoms nearly 48 hours on, is this a cause for concern or just that whatever it is isn't fully out of my system yet?

Shellfish allergy or MSG

Flowersinthewindowstill · 24/09/2020 20:15

Yes, my boyfriend thought Msg, as he's had a similar reaction as a teenager. It also aligns with shellfish though as symptoms are quite similar.

I'm just a bit concerned with still having some symptoms. I'm guessing 48 hours on means I've probably not had a severe reaction, but still have swollen neck glands, crazy heart rate and the numbness.

Shellfish probably. A lot of people believe the MSG thing but there's very little evidence it's harmful.

Do you have any antihistamines OP? X

Flowersinthewindowstill · 24/09/2020 20:24

Yes, I'm taking 1 antihistamine a day. For some reason the symptoms seem worse at night.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan well I ended up in an ambulance but I do have a heart condition that was later found and the consultant says that was likely linked
