had epidural during labour with ds 7wks ago, took them 5 tries to get it in, eek! then had it topped up to go to theatre (as precaution incase needed cs - i didnt)
Getting bit concerned that still havent got the feeling back in one foot, right thigh and various spots on legs and tummy. Only really the foot thats bothering me because i'm sure i'm walking like a duck!

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Have you been to the Doctors, this sounds bizzare to me.

gemdangracie · 09/10/2007 22:47

i still cant feel any of my tummy, my toes on my left foot from my epidural which i had 10 months ago, i went to docs and they just said feeling should come back with time and they may have hit a nerve!!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 09/10/2007 22:48

I've had this happen to me after my first (epidural for VD) and last (spinal for CS). I can't remember how long it lasted first time round (8 years ago). Now I'm 2 weeks after having DD2 and I have a slightly swollen right leg with pins & needles. The HV said I should go to the GP to check it out. I think I walk OK but I want to get out of Birkenstocks and buy some winter boots and I can't do it until I get back to normal. Seven weeks sounds like an awfully long time, though.

Perhaps you could buy some Uggs!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 09/10/2007 23:34

BB, would that be the natural transition from Birkenstocks? Practical, even if not particularly pretty or stylish?

themoon66 · 09/10/2007 23:36

Sorry to have to tell you this, but I still have a dead patch on my upper inner left thigh and DD was born 21 YEARS ago

captainmummy · 10/10/2007 12:13

I had spinal blocks for 2 sections, and after the last (8 years ago) I still have little sensation of wanting to go pee. I think they cut a nerve when they opened me up, but I suppose you didn't have that.If i were you I would go to the docs, you may have a trapped nerve or vessel.

tasja · 10/10/2007 12:21

Go to the doc. I had a epidural with DD. After epidural I sometimes couldn't lift my right leg up. And if I sat on the ground I struggled to get up. And in the mornings when I got up my leg gave in under me. My back was also sore, sometimes felt like it got locked (if you know what i mean)
I told this to the doc at my 12week check up. he said it will get better. Told him again 4 months on, again said it will get better and gave me anti inflamatories for the pain.
A year after DD was born, my back (locked) and it was so bad that I had to phone DH to come home, I couldn't move! - I stood on the same spot till DH arrived home. He took me to the doc (another doc) and she gave me other pills which worked wonders!
6 months on, no prob.

so go to doc, and if it persists, go back and go back and go back till its gone!

good luck

My baby is 10 weeks old and I have a numb patch on my tummy (about a side plate size low down on the right hand side). The sensation is dulled rather than missing. I think it is getting better. I have not yet been for my 6 week check up - I can't cope with the thought of there being anything seriously wrong and so, for the moment, I'm ignoring it.

I was telling my bf this yesterday and she said she was overdue a smear test but could not cope with that on top of everything else (she has an awful lot going on at the moment). She said sometimes it really does just seem easier to die .

themoon66 · 10/10/2007 12:39

Caroline.... your poor friend

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 13:22

She didn't mean it literally, she said it with laughter. But it does make you think.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 10/10/2007 16:28

Captainmummy - I also have little sensation of needing to pee. The MW said it's from the catheter rather than the spinal and that it will wear off. It's 2 weeks later now for me and it's worrying to think this may be permanent. What do you do? Just go to the loo on a regular basis? That's what i've been doing so far and no accidents yet. After months of constantly needing a pee while pg now I want to feel the need again... This is quite depressing.

captainmummy · 10/10/2007 16:52

Actually you might be right about the catheter....I have a quite large bladder, so it doesn;t really bother me, I just go when I feel I should, but of course by then I'm in there for about half-an-hour! Otherwise yeah I go even if I don't 'need' to. In 8 years I haven't had any accidents!TG.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 10/10/2007 16:55

I'll check with the GP in an hour as I have an appointment for DD2 anyway. I'll let you know what the GP says as well.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 10/10/2007 18:16

No news to report as it was a GP i hadn't seen before and didn't feel like talking about it, plus DS and DD1 had chosen that time to fight over some stickers. I might need to wait until my usual v nice & knowledgeable female GP comes back.
