Think you were right to keep her off, give her a rest day so she can get over it. Bad coughs can take alot out of kids, especially if they have broken sleep due to coughing during the night.

belgo · 09/10/2007 10:36

yes you were right to keep her at home where she can rest and recover. She's only 4!

putitdown · 09/10/2007 10:37

This isn't aimed at you putitdown, because your DD is only 4. My DCs are older, and rule is if you're not well enough to be in school, you're home, in bed, and if you feel a bit better, you can read/do homework. No TV/computer etc. That said, they're rarely ill and I'm an evil working mother.

putitdown · 09/10/2007 10:59

my mum was like you and is why I feel guilty poor thing looks so tired pale, black eyes etc. I just thought she needs a day to recover

dd was off one days last week, she had soaring temp all through night and hardly any sleep, got up in morn right as rain???!!!..kept her off though as didnt now if she was going to be ill againa and she was fine all day!!??sometimes they just need a rest...like us

ToadieG1 · 09/10/2007 11:00

I think you did the right thing.

If mine are ill I don't expect them to be doing homework though or anything like that as they need to rest and get better. They get to lounge about and stay in pjs usually. They're not ill often though and I can tell when they're ill or not. They're still young though and don't make up being ill at the moment.

Dd is off school with chicken pox now after catching it from ds2, no doubt ds1 will be off pre-school soon with it too.

seeker · 09/10/2007 11:01

At 4 mine had days off if I felt they were tired - they shouldn't even be at school at that age! Have a lovely aftenoon - do a bit of baking!

SSSandy2 · 09/10/2007 11:06

yes I would definitely keep her home

mustsleep · 09/10/2007 11:08

i think you were right a couple of day won;t hurt and like other people have said she's not at "real" school yet is she

she will prob get over it quicker if she can have a good rest and it's better for the other children too

lilospel · 09/10/2007 11:15

don't feel guilty putitdown, you are her Mum, you can tell when she's not well. And tiredness is a big part of it in younger children. She'd end up more sick without a rest, probably. To clarify, I don't expect really sick children to do homework! But DCs have never been really sick. Woken up feeling a bit grotty, and then I say they can stay at home, but that they are home because they are ill and it isn't going to be like a holiday. So we're talking about different things.
