Stool sample help please!

I’m having various tests for digestive issues and the doctor has asked for a stool sample.
I have to drop my sample back to the surgery before 2pm, Mon-Fri, as this is the last collection time.
The problem is I never, ever need a poo in the morning or early afternoon, I go in the evening (sorry tmi).
Will the sample be ok if I leave it overnight or does it have to be tested within a certain timeframe?
I’ve read conflicting things about it needing to be refrigerated too. Do I need to store it in the fridge (gross!)
Any advice welcome please

The evening will be fine. No need to put it in the fridge either.

Just don’t store it next to a hot radiator... ive taken many stool samples for my son, they were recommended to be refrigerated I used to wrap them in numerous bags and store them right at the bottom of the fridge

Thanks both, but conflicting advice there!
Does it maybe depend on what exactly they are testing for?

I’m doing the same thing on Monday but I have to take before 1130 very difficult in my case, have you got acid reflux by any chance!

Yes. Some tests have to be at the lab within a couple of hours. In thise circumstances I contacted the lab (based at the hospital) and arranged to take one in directly.

@CambsAlways I’ve got a whole host of digestive issues and acid reflux is one of them yes. I also have an urgent need to run to the loo about half an hour after eating, accompanied by awful stomach cramps. It’s horrible.
Good luck with your sample Smile

I’m so fed up of it all, feeling so Poorly with this, I know the only way to get to the bottom of this ( excuse the pun) is an upper endoscopy which I’m petrified of having, but I’m beginning to welcome it, as nothing is helping

Thankyou hippohector and good luck to you also
