I am currently on my AF (7 weeks apart due to me having the Implant) and have noticed when I take my tampons out there is a really horrible smell. Like one of my babys dirty nappies. I've checked that I haven't managed to insert a new tampon without removing the old one and there is nothing else there. I was also ill last week with what I thought was a bit of a tummy bug (a bit of diahorrea (sp?), tummy ache, nausea, headache and absolutely knackered). Now I'm starting to wonder if maybe I've got an infection and I need to go to the doctors for some ab's? I'm still getting a bit of stomach pain (very unlike period pains) kind of stabbing pains that come and go quite fast. Should I go to the doctors? Apart for an infection what else could it be? It'll all just so embarrassing [lush]

yes u should go the doctors, preferably tomorrow, it is possible u may still have an old tampon up there but u just cant reach high enough to check andif this isnt the case then i would think u do have an infection, the tummy pains could point to either really, infection or awol tampon good luck, let us know how u get on

I'm in New Zealand and it costs $30.00 to see the doctor plus extra for a prescription so it'll have to wait until Friday. Rent day today and no money left! Thanks for your advice though I feel so dirty!

Pooka I could go to hospital for free but would have to pay for any prescription. I might check the bank balance this evening.

How long does it take to claim the money back? I know that you can claim, I think, all bar the first $10 of it back if you are on restricted means as about 75% of my brothers patients fit into this category. I'm sure any friend would rather help out and wait to be reimbursed than see you get more sick.

Haribosmum · 09/10/2007 03:01

Vole3 I cannot claim any of this money back. The $30 is government subsidised though

Agree with other posters that you need to be checked out and fast (toxic shock syndrome could be what you're facing potentially if you do have a tampon stuck) but you should definately go to the hospital and not the doctor as they will have all the necessary equipment to deal with the problem (whatever it is) there and then.

Good luck!

sounds like you could have pelvic inflamation. I would definately go to A & E today.

OK so I stopped using Tampons yesterday (silly me didn't think to stop using them until it was mentioned on here ) and the smell has all but gone. Also my AF has almost stopped as well. I'm starting to think it was the loss that was smelling....? What would that mean? I know..."go to the doctors Helen" LOL! I promise I will go later but what about the smell going?

BV - bacterial vaginosis occurs when the normal flora 'down there' are altered. It gives rise to a grey, watery discharge and is rather pungent. I got it after having treatment for an abnormal smear but it soon cleared up with antibiotics. I guess it can also be caused by using tampons as they dry everything out and fanjos are meant to be self-cleansing during AF.
