Back pain / kidney area

Hi, my first baby is a year old next month and about a week before I wen into labour I experienced this pain for the first time, which was the same when I had my contractions and has hit me subsequently since when my period returned and even now I’m on the pill so not ovulating or having periods.

It’s like a non-muscular intense pain in my side/back on the left, I think I’m my kidney area. Before labour I had it twice and the second time I was convinced it was a kidney infection, had to lie down and got antibiotics and tests done. The results came back after baby was actually born (he was 9 days early) saying I never had an infection. So I thought it must have been early contractions as it was the same when I went into labour, but I’ve had it maybe 5 or 6 times in the year since giving birth. I thought it must be new period pains but I’ve recently had it twice including right now (two weeks apart) and I’m in the pill. It comes out of nowhere very suddenly (today I was fine until about 4pm) and painkillers don’t help. I’ve also been drinking copious water since it started in case it’s dehydration affecting my kidneys.

Think I’ll try the doctor tomorrow. I haven’t got any other weird kidney symptoms, my wee looks normal etc. I’ve read about things like kidney stones, gallstones, fibroids, but nothing’s jumping out at me. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like my experience of kidney stones. The pain was like labour for me. OTC painkillers did absolutely nothing for the pain.
