Iron tablets

I was given ferrous sulphate tablets. Terrible tummy. Now given ferrous fumarate. Is this any better. ...? Please advice

Fumarate was (is) much better for me personally. I'm not sure if that's generally the case or not though.

Yes, the sulphate gave me an awful upset stomach but the fumarate is fine. Remember to take it with vitamin c so that it absorbs properly.

Ferrous sulphate can cause constipation/sore tummy (this happened when I took 3 tablets a day) but when I reduced it to 1-2 tablets a day it was fine. Watch out for the black poop it causes! That was a shock. Apparently this is excess iron.

Fumerate is generally better. There is also evidence that you absorb more iron if you only take it alternate days which is a lot kinder on the bowels.
