Is your hair supposed to fall out after having a baby?

I have noticed it seems to be doing this a bit - lots comes out on the hairbrush. Ds2 is 4 months old.
I'm sure I heard that it can happen after giving birth, and I think I had thicker hair when I was pregnant - it's noramlly pretty fine - so maybe it's just that falling out?

Eek! Someone tell me I'm not going to end up bald

it's normal. you don't experience normal hair loss during pg so afterwards you lose the excess. don't worry you'll be fine.

Don't worry, mine fell out by the fist fulls when had both my boys and I am so not bald

witchandchips · 08/10/2007 11:49

its normal, sometimes it does not happen until you stop breastfeeding exclusively

Quite normal.

You actually overproduce hair when you're pregnant - side effect of all your pregnancy hormones.

So you're not really losing hair, as much as losing the EXTRA hair you grew while you had a bump.

I found that I lost a HUGE amount not straight after but almost a delayed hormonal thing when youngest was around 2 and a half. Apparently it is normal for the post pregnancy hormonal readjustment thing to happen quite a bit later too. I was distraught and convinced I would be bald within a coupel of months - could see my scalp shining in the sunlight etc. near my parting. Grown back fine a year or so later. Not as thick as pre pregnancies but def not gone bald.
There are plenty of thickening type shampoos and mousses etc on the market which to help "fluff" up and improve the appearance if you are concerned while you give it time to grow back normally. They helped me a little
