Mix up with drugs

I'm not on any prescription medication and very rarely take painkillers but yesterday I tried to use some paracetamol but turns out a friend had accidentally left a sheet of their sertraline in my packet.

I have no idea if I took the paracetamol or the sertraline, I only discovered today when I was trying to package it up and put it away and thought: what fresh hell is this?

I'm probably fretting about nothing but I don't know which pill I've taken, it was 3.

Can't get through on 111 at the moment and trying to get through to friend because I shouldn't have their prescription drugs. And they need to be more careful about where they put them!

I either took 1500mg paracetamol yesterday or 300mg sertraline.

It's very confusing as I didn't expect to encounter a strange drug but I'm probably worrying too much.

Still can't get hold of friend, I shouldn't have hold of their drugs.

How did you not recognise that both the package and tablets dont look like paracetamol.

Did you take 3 tablets at once? That's not the dose for paracetamol.

If you did take the sertraline and you're not on any other medicine i doubt there would be any serious problems. It can make you really sleepy though.

These are the side effects ppl will be told to contact a gp about. Calling your own gp is quicker than 111.

being sick (vomiting)
tremor
feeling sleepy
dizziness
fast heart rate
seizures

Sleepy is very true; I honestly didn't consider that there might be other drugs in my paracetamol packet because it's not what you'd expect and just swallowed three and yes that is over the advised limit but ok over 24 hours.

Still trying to get hold of friend to return them.

Why take 3x paracetamol one one go? Your body can’t make use of the extra 500mg anyway.

This post is a whole load of WTF.

ChaChaCha2012 · 09/09/2020 16:03

Unless you have pre existing conditions you've not mentioned, neither of those combinations is going to do you any harm.

ChaChaCha2012 · 09/09/2020 16:03

Leave a message for your friend. Unless they've run out, collecting the meds is not an emergency.

Oh it's not really, I just took one more than advised. And then didn't take any others.

I don't know if it was sertraline or paracetamol though as I wasn't expecting to find that in the packet.

Thank you for your kind message; I feel like I will be blamed for having someone else's medication.

Hopefully I should be able to get hold of them soon and return it.

Sort of balanced out as I managed to get hold of my friend and she said it might have been a mistake of my own making and putting things into the wrong container! I think it was her although it doesn't matter now. She said to bin the rest of the sertraline.

I've got the hiccups but I'll seek medical help if I took the wrong medication by mistake. I don't know though.
