Lump in neck

A couple of days ago I noticed a hard, painless lump on the left side of my neck - it's quite low down & just off centre. Not sure if this is a "get to the GP ASAP" thing or a "wait and see" thing. I thought I'd leave it for a while in case it went away but I'm worried that that's the wrong thing to do &, if it were something concerning, it'd be better to get it seen to sooner... But then again, I don't want to be bothering my GP unnecessarily at the moment!

I do have a tendency to assume the worst over the tiniest of symptoms which usually resolve themselves... How long should I give it to see if it does just go away?

I’d go to my GP.
As far as I know, neck lumps are automatically referred onto a 2 week pathway to eliminate anything sinister (unlikely).
I work with Head and Neck specialists and the majority of lumps are completely harmless. But it’s worth getting it checked out to put your mind at rest.
It’s probably a cyst, lipoma, enlarged lymph node, salivary gland, or congenital lump Smile

I rang my GP a couple of months ago as I had a lump in my neck and also both sides of the bottom of my skull, though mine were painful. They did a telephone consultation, and I was to ring back if the lumps hadn’t gone in 4 weeks. She thought some kind of viral infection. They went after about 2 weeks.
I was the same as you not wanting to bother the GP, but I would definitely ring them for advice.

Finally managed to get a phone app with the GP & she's told me to come in tomorrow so she can look at it. My anxiety's through the roof - I have social anxiety anyway & usually I'd get my DH to come with me but we can't get anyone to watch the DC at the moment & I'm totally freaking out about not knowing where to go we've recently changed GPs so I'm not familiar with the layout & what she's going to ask me. Then there's the not knowing how long I might have to wait for further tests, what further tests they might be, where I might have to go, who I might have to talk to... That's all before I get to an actual diagnosis & have to deal with any treatment... I'm genuinely more concerned about the process than any potential diagnosis. Hmm
