Hello.

I am nearly 12 weeks pregnant and had bloods done last week. The results of which I can view on an app. But I'm not sure what it all means. There was a platelet count and when I googled it said it was high! What does 442 mean? And what is a heamotocrit?

You can ring your gp surgery and ask. I’m sure blood results are checked by gp before you get to view them, but like you I would want to know what they mean.

My platelet results was similar to yours but I'm not pregnant. I think they are borderline-mildly high the normal upper end being 400, but I think they can be higher in pregnancy. I'm sure if there were results outside the range your doctor would want to discuss with you.

Yes I thought I would get a call if anything to be worried about. I googled platelet counts and it was a bit scary!

Normally when you get blood results, there are three columns.

The first shows the units of measurement, the second shows your result and the third shows the range considered normal.

So if your result is within that range, then it’s normal (although it may still be of note if it’s right at the low or high end).
