Fainted today in restaurant

Dear all,

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on whether I'm ok to wait until Tuesday to see the Gp.

I was out for dinner with a friend today, had 2 1/2 drinks felt a bit sick.

Got up to go to the bathroom, felt is disoriented and then woke up on the bathroom floor.

I fainted but landed myself in a plant pot stand.

The worst part is I urinated and woke up in a puddle of urine.

I'm slightly worried that if I had some kind of fit and lost control of my bladder as opposed to lost control after I hit my head.

I have a huge bump on the back of my head and must have also landed on my bum as it's sore as well.

I feel ok now wasn't sick in the end.

I haven't fainted in a long time, I was the victim of a creeper burglary at the start of the week. So I don't know if I was still upset just from that.

Any thoughts on whether I'm ok to wait to see the GP?

Thanks

I'ld give 111 a call and see what they think.

Wigeon · 29/08/2020 21:53

I would ring your out of hours doctor number, given there wasn’t anything obviously triggering the faint. (Serial fainter here, and have become something of an expert on fainting!). Urinating can happen during a “normal” faint, it doesn’t necessarily mean it must have been a fit. But I’d get some proper advice via out of hours GP before Tuesday.

sunshinecitrus1 · 29/08/2020 21:53

Hi @slaveforpeppa Smile Sorry to hear you had such a tough start to the week, that must have been awful!
Throughout my life I have fainted a good few times too, I am quite squeamish so that has triggered my fainting a lot of the time and when I have got out of a bath that has been too hot, that kind of thing!
How are you feeling now this evening? If you’re feeling OK now then I would definitely say you are fine to wait until Tuesday. You could always call 111 for advice if you feel it is necessary.
Stress can cause all sorts of symptoms to your body including fainting and what happened to you earlier this week is probably something to do with it.
I really hope you start feeling better soon! xo

Thanks ladies for all the responses.
You are all very kind.

I will give the out of hours doctor A call and see what they think.

I hope you’re feeling a little better. Another serial fainter here and definitely stress makes it a little more frequent! Also as embarrassing as it is to admit, I pee when fainting more often that not, so although I think you should get checked to make sure, it is possible that it was a faint rather than a seizure. I find fruit juice or a few squares of chocolate perks me up a bit. Hope you’re okay.

Kaiserin · 29/08/2020 23:22

I'd be concerned about the bump. You could have a concussion. Definitely call 111, or get yourself to A&E (have someone else drive) if you get further neurological symptoms.

Graphista · 29/08/2020 23:26

Obvious things to rule out:

Low blood sugar
Anaemia
Pregnancy

But aside from that you say "friend" but was it a date? And if so is it possible said friend slipped you something? Just another possible idea

Either way definitely call and check with someone before leaving it several days

slaveforpeppa · 29/08/2020 23:36

Thanks everyone. The Out of hours wanted me to come to A&E so I'm
Here.

My friend was def just that, female friend.
Def no pregnant no sex since Feb, wasn't low blood sugar as I was eating atm and I don't think I'm anaemic. It's usually very obvious from my complexion.

Dc granny has come to look after DC and let me come up.

I'm sure it's nothing but doctor wasn't happy with the loss of bladder control and the length of time I lost consciousness.

Will keep you all posted.

Hope you're not waiting too long OP and good luck!

sunshinecitrus1 · 30/08/2020 00:37

@slaveforpeppa Good luck at A&E, I hope you get your answers soon. Let us know! Smile

Howallergic · 30/08/2020 00:49

That actually sounds scary. Hope you get some answers.

slaveforpeppa · 30/08/2020 06:47

Just back home.

All tests bloods, heart tracing etc came back normal.

They don't know what it is really but told me to keep an eye.

Hopefully that's it.

Thank you for all your advice and support.

@slaveforpeppa At least you got yourself checked out! Hopefully there will be no repeats! Now, try and get some sleep as you have been up all night! Shock

Wigeon · 30/08/2020 15:39

Glad you got checked out. One of the most common causes of fainting is dehydration - I know you’d had 2.5 drinks but if they were alcoholic, is it possible you hadn’t been drinking enough water that day?

There’s good info on fainting from the specialist fainting clinic at Hammersmith hospital www.stopfainting.com. And the other obvious bit of advice is to get straight down on the floor as soon as you feel weird, or at the very least, sit down; don’t wait just in case it’s not a faint. Hope it’s just a one off though!

KoalasandRabbit · 30/08/2020 15:55

Glad you got checked out and it's all OK. Would imagine the stress of the burglary may well have been the cause, would just try and take it easy for a while if you can.

IslandLulu · 30/08/2020 18:28

Fainter here. My full sympathies to you. But I only faint when I am ill. I think fainting is a symptom that something is wrong.

slaveforpeppa · 02/09/2020 21:20

Thanks all I'm definitely feeling better. I was drinking water along with the dinner and drinks.

My friend who was out with me became unwell the next day, so I wondered then if it could be food poisoning.

My system would react quickly if I ate something off.

I have managed fainting for years so have never injured myself as I know to get to the ground etc.

I think I collapsed as soon as I went into the bathroom as I have no memory of being in there until I woke up.

Normally I would know that I need to get to the ground and have some warning.

All very strange, the doctor suggested that it was because I got up quickly but I advised that I was siting when I became disoriented.

It remains a mystery
