Teeth grinding and headaches

Wondering if anyone has any experience of this and found anything that helped? I have a mouth guard to protect teeth. There are months where things are fine, and then periods like at the moment I wake up most mornings with bad neck and headache, which lasts most the day.
I mentioned it in passing to gp a couple of years ago (appointment about something else) and they said sometimes they prescribe antidepressants to relax the muscles, which I didn't like the sound of.
