Apologies, have also posted about this on a health anxiety thread (which I have big style at the moment!)
I went to my gp with a small dent on my breast and she referred me under the two week wait.
A bit of background - 16 years ago I had a breast abscess surgically removed and drained in the same area which has left a scar above my nipple which has now faded to a white line. The dent is just above it. After she referred me, I remembered that I had almost certainly seen that dent before a number of times in the years since the surgery, just not recently (It's only visible in certain lights and angles). God knows why I forgot! I wasn't worried as I didn't realise back then that dents were a concern and assumed it was caused by the surgery. It was reading a story in the Daily Fail about a woman that had a dent that turned out to be cancer that set me off!
I was pretty sure that the clinic would tell me it was scarring from the surgery and send me on my way. I'm over 50 and have had 2 screening mammograms, last one 3 years ago, both came back clear.
Clinic did mammogram and ultrasound which found no lumps or masses but some tissue distortion in the area in question. They said that, while this could be consistent with the surgery, they wouldn't wish to assume so wanted to compare with my previous mammograms in a team meeting to ensure no changes and do a biopsy if so. That really freaked me out and have spent all week worrying.
Nurse just called. Said they've compared my mammogram with previous ones said all fine, area looks "pretty much" the same. No biopsy needed but do want to take some some additional views, just to be sure. They will send an appointment through shortly.
Still not quite the news I wanted as it means more waiting but does sound like they're being extremely thorough. Nurse assured me nothing to worry about but of course I still will! Actually quite cross with myself for opening this can of worms now!
Anyone have any experience or words of wisdom for this kind of thing. Anything to worry about or are they just uber efficient??
