'Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is most contagious during the first week of illness. However, the coxsackievirus may spread for weeks after signs and symptoms have disappeared. Some people excreting the virus, especially most adults, may have no signs or symptoms of hand-foot-and-mouth disease.'

I remember reading that once the symptoms have gone, they can go back to schooL/nursery.

Thanks. A friend's DS has it but seems to think it is okay to get together withme & SIL and our DDs . I said, "err, not until the end of next week", so she hung up from me and called SIL and invited herself around there on Monday afternoon.

It's not a serious illness, and they are contagious before symptoms appear, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If they catch it, it will be over quite quickly.

Okay - thanks!
