Hysteroscopy procedure- pain afterwards

Hello there.
Yesterday morning I had a hysteroscopy to check out my uterus and whether everything looked 'normal' since I suffer from heavy and painful periods. Procedure all went well- no GA or local or pain relief at time of procedure. The worst part was the biopsy- the cramping was something else but the doctor was very good and did it as quickly as she could. Today (and last night) i feel like my uterus has been kind of irritated. The cramps/pain I am experiencing aren't like the initial cramps I had yesterday. Just wondering what other ladies experience of this is and how quickly I can expect this to settle. I almost feel kind of tense in my uterus. Still bleeding as well. Taken some paracetamol as well this morning. Being a worrier I just wonder if my symptoms are in-line with what's considered normal!

I’ve had 4 hysteroscopies. The first one didn’t hurt too much at the time and they took biopsies. I then went off and did some shopping and bloody hell the pain hit me half way through my shopping trip. I went home, took some pain killers and felt fine a day or two later. I think it was the biopsy that caused the pain as I’ve since had three more hysteroscopies without biopsies and they didn’t hurt although I did bleed as I had polyps removed.

Thank you Afternooninthepark- this is really helpful to know. I do think it's the biopsy as you say that causes the pain.

I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy the same as you - no sedation or general. It was quite uncomfortable at the time and I did have some cramping and pain for around 24 hours with a small amount of bleeding. It sounds fairly similar to what you are experiencing.

I agree with the other posters. I had the same thing with no GA etc but the biopsy was fine (I'd also had a biopsy alone some months before and that was fine- just a tiny 'nip'.)

I had no bleeding at all but was told to watch for moderate pain or a temp which could indicate an infection. That didn't happen but if you carry on being sore, or feel hot, talk to the hospital.
