Any Dentists about? Bleeding after tooth extraction, normal?

I had a back tooth removed at 5pm today, it was a baby tooth that had deteriorated and got infected.

It's still bleeding now, not loads but still enough to notice, is this normal? I'm aware the healing process is that it needs to form a blood clot.

In lots of pain and feeling very sorry for myself so be kind Grin

Dentist here, some blood stained saliva is normal. Try not to disturb it, no rinsing/ brushing there for 24 hours. Try to apply pressure with something clean like medical /first aid gauze if you have it, or clean kitchen roll/ hankie etc. 5-10 mins firm pressure and it should stop. Do you take any medication that thins your blood? Avoid aspirin and alcohol for 24 hours too!

Thank you, no I'm not on any medication. Am I ok to drink water?

Yes you can drink water but avoid all hot drinks today as that can cause post op bleeding.

Take either paracetamol or ibuprofen (medical history permitting) for the pain. make sure you eat something before taking pain relief though, yoghurt is ideal.

Thanks, I've not eaten since lunch so will skip the painkillers until tomorrow. Going to try to get some sleep.
