It may mean diabetes but essentially, if you have ketones in your urine, it simply means muscle is being burned rather than energy. Is she lsoing weight/had a drop in appetite?

On diabetes front, has she been wild/aggressive lately? Needing to wee in the night/a lot, needing to drink a lot. Wide eyed at all? Has she white spots on her teeth (not agreed by all that this is a sign but some say it is)

Some fairly simple tests vis GP will rule diabetes in or out.

If she had diabetes it is likely that the nurse would have also found glucose in her urine as well.

Ketones on their own means that she is using fat for energy rather than the sugar in her blood. This can happen when people have been poorly and aren't eating properly, have been vomiting, or have an infection. Ketosis also caused bad breath.

I would ask the GP to send her for blood tests to see if there is anything brewing.

thought it was her age she has been more moody argumentive weight loss not to sure about think shes got taller recently makes her look all legs her wee has had a strong smell recently and she has needed to go all of a sudden almost like shes had no build up to feeling full if that makes sense
the nurse is going to do a finger prick test if still ketones in wee what sould be a normal reading or what would be classed has high
thankyou

A normal random blood sugar reading would be less than 10. (But I would arrange a fasting sample if a patient had a random of 7-10).

A normal fasting blood sugar should be less than 7.

Hi flowermel, I really hope your daughter is feeling better now. Have you had her blood tested, this needs to be done if they do suspect diabetes. I only know this because I have been through this with my own little girl very recently.

Other symptons: breath smelling of pear drops/excessive thirst/ lots of weeing/lethargy.

Let us know how you get on x
