Sore left breast.. but no lump

Hi everyone,

Over the past couple of weeks I have felt a pain in my left breast. It’s only sore if I touch it. The only way to describe the location is if my breast looked like a clock it is sore from 1 - 5 o clock 😂 the pain isn’t in the nipple, it sort of curves round it.

Only being 27 and not having a lump, is this something a doctor would take seriously? I’m worried a doctor might not check as thoroughly because of my age.

Unfortunately an old friend of mine got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer around 6 months ago so it’s making me more aware of what to look out for. Just don’t want the doctors to think I’m wasting their time as the only symptom I have is pain, no changes or lumps.

Thanks

Definitely see your GP, my only symptom was pain but she took it seriously, reassured me it was likely to be nothing but said she would refer to the breast clinic anyway.

Mine turned out to be a few cysts and a fibroadenoma that was too small to be felt and no further treatment.

Any change/symptom on the breast needs checking.

Thanks. I’m going to give them a call tomorrow and ask if they can fit me in at some point this week.

I know it sounds really childish but I’m a majorly self conscious person and the thought of taking my bra off in front of a doctor and letting it all hang out makes me cringe abit! But it’s for the best to get checked obviously.

More likely to be an infection to be honest. I get a sore right boob whenever I get a cold!!

Either way best to see someone - doesn't have to be a dr and you can request a female hcp if that makes you more comfortable?

Itsfreakyfriday · 23/08/2020 18:35

Oh really! That’s strange isn’t it?!

Yes I’m not overly fussed if it’s a doctor or hcp, would like for it to be a female if possible.

I’m hoping it’s something little, it’s 100% not period related as it has been like this for a little while.

They've seen it all and more before so don't worry. Most important is to get it checked so give them a call, let us know how you get on.

Definitely go to the doctor, they see bits and bobs all the time! Don’t worry. Good luck xx

Breast pain isn't always hormonal. Infection can affect the lymph nodes which can lead to pain in the nerves leading into the breast, pulled muscles, sometimes anti inflammatories and other meds can affect them - I also get a weird numb feeling in left breast in the few seconds after using my asthma inhaler!

If it's been a while and no fever or other signs of infection could well be a pulled muscle or muscular pain from a poorly fitting bra!

My mum once bumped herself on her side moving some furniture and must have caught herself oddly as the next day that boob had swollen up and was sore. Did look painful at the time (corner of a sideboard) but she was ok rest of day but woke up bloody sore next day.

Piccalino3 · 23/08/2020 21:40

OP, please see your GP. It really is very likely nothing or something minor but there could be a small chance it's not. My Mum died of a rare type of breast cancer (IBC) which caused no lump. I've hesitated to write this post because I don't want to scare you but I really just wanted to say please get it checked out as it's better to know it's nothing than to worry that it could be something!

KingaRoo · 23/08/2020 21:46

It's worth getting checked but extremely unlikely to be anything to worry about. I recently had something similar and the consultant said it is very common to get one-sided breast pain, even when it's non-cyclical. I had a scan and it was all fine.

sunnysideup05 · 24/08/2020 13:16

I would also get it checked. In fact I have the exact same thing and have an appointment at the breast clinic tomorrow. I'm not feeling too anxious - just really want to have it checked over as it's quite uncomfortable at times!

Mvshrln · 15/09/2020 13:56

@sunnysideup05 how was your scan? I have one sided breast pain and feeling quite anxious about this.

@Itsfreakyfriday did you end up seeing the GP about this?

thanks all

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/09/2020 13:58

I have been referred to the breast clinic previously with just pain. Thankfully mammogram came back negative. I also get right breast pain with a cold, same as PP

sunnysideup05 · 15/09/2020 17:55

@Mvshrln - my scan was clear. The radiologist said I had very dense tissue which was to be expected of someone my age (nearly 39), still having periods etc. She also said that one sided pain was not unusual (which is contrary to what you read on google!) and that over the years the pain can shift around, eg. it might move to the other breast, become more apparent in both breasts etc. She gave me a leaflet about breast pain and said it is so so so common and that it's definitely best not to google. I hope this reassures you a bit.

Mvshrln · 15/09/2020 18:04

@sunnysideup05 thank you for your reply. so pleased to hear your scan was clear and they gave you some reassurance! I've had a previous ultrasound which has shown dense/lumpy (but perfectly healthy) breast tissue. Google is awful!
