Private health insurance

Do any of you have private health insurance for the whole family? What is on offer and which ones are good?
We're in germany and the health care system is excellent - no waiting time for appointments, specialists galore etc. I've seen how long it takes to get to see a specialist from my own family and waiting times of up to 6 weeks are meant to be normal. If we can afford it would there be an alternative? Especially worried about the state of the dentistry service.

Hi..we have a BUPA family policy..first year every time you want to see a consultant you have to get a doc. letter, its all checked, you wait till they give permission, can be frustrating..after a year all changes, you can just ring up and say i want to see so and so for this problem, they give an authorization number over the phone and you book up an appointment with consultant, very quick and easy..no problem with payments, really excellent.

Thanks for those two names, I'd heard of BUPA but not PruHealth.
Am I right in thinking you need private insurance for teeth nowadays anyway?

When you join a dentist ask which dentistry plan they recommend.

So if you have to join a dentist does that mean there are waiting lists for some? If you have to join before finding out if you like the dentist it is abit of a pain to have to change plan aswell.
