Cost of Radiotherapy

Does anybody know the general cost of radiotherapy treatment? Google has absolutely nothing. I appreciate it will be different depending on what you are having done but I'm just after a ball park figure e.g. £10k to £20k a treatment, or £100k. Thanks

Sorry I forgot to say if we pay privately.

I dread to think but if you ring enquiries at your private hospital they should be able to give you a rough idea of cost.

It really does depend quite a lot on what exactly you are needing, and all the other things around it - if you need planning CT and MRI, if it is going to be on a non standard machine (protons, MR Linac), and how many treatments, and then all the consultations and follow up.
Probably easily £50k all in by the time it is all added up.

Out of interest, why are you considering going private? Waiting lists are very short (and usually just the time it takes to prepare the treatment) with a few exceptions like prostate brachytherapy, and the treatment will be the same

Hi op. Im sure you have your own reasons to go private, but i had my radiotherapy in the middle of lockdown, there was no delay at all( apart from the 8 weeks i had to give my body to recover from surgery)i was in a consultant led unit as i have a rare auto immune disease and saw the consultant every week during treatment for monitoring. The service was excellent as were all the doctors and nurses

I don't think you can get radiotherapy privately can you?

CMOTDibbler · 19/08/2020 15:52

@jomaIone yes, there are quite a few private centres now - 5 years ago it was pretty much London only, but now they are more widely spread

You certainly can get radiotherapy privately and the cost can be about 15-20k, depending where you go. More if it's very specialised RT. If you know the type and amount you need to can ask private facilities for an estimate
