ok - doing gym workouts, eating & drinking less & haven't lost an ounce in weeks

I am working out big time and at the end of every week I weigh and don't lose anything.

I have cut down on the wine too and only spoil myself with a chicken tikka, rice & naan bread once a week (that's my only sin).

I spoke to the Gym instructor & he reckons I need to do harder workouts . I already do a 20 min thrash out on the cross-trainer, 20 mins jog on treadmill and 20 on the bike and sweat profusely so I know I am not slacking.

Why oh why can't I loose weight??? Any ideas?

Have you been measuring yourself?

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 03/10/2007 18:41

Oh God.. me too!!!! Have been trashing it out liek a loony thing and sweating very unprettily since late July.... and have gained 4 lbs! Fab!!!

Have now joined KatyBumps diet thread. And I'm fecking hungry...!

pneumalifenewname · 03/10/2007 18:41

I never lost weight while still enjoying a curry once a fortnight and I don't drink more than once a month either so you could maybe look at those two things. How often do you train?

I had to do 4-5 2 or 3 hour sessions in order to lose weight using weights as well as what you are using.

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 03/10/2007 18:43

2 or three hours in the gym at one time??!

Sheesh!! I am dead on my feet after an hour's workout!! Plus.. I have other things to do in my life!

(not shouting.. just exasperated!)

TrinityRhino · 03/10/2007 18:43

you could be putting on muscle which weighs more than fat

or

you may not be eating enough for all the exercise you are doing so your body is hanging on to everything

Katisha · 03/10/2007 18:44

Weight by itself can be a bit of a red herring? Are you losing inches do you think? Are clothes looser?

pneumalifenewname · 03/10/2007 18:44

Depressing isn't it but that was the case, unfortunately for me.

Can I just mention something that something alerted me to?

A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of flesh - one just looks better.

Alliebongo · 03/10/2007 18:45

i've decided that i must be pure muscle as i never lose weight....

jenthehen · 03/10/2007 18:46

I've been just the same, now I've given up on guessing how much I'm eating and I've joined ww to give me a real focus. Combined with running 3 times a week I EXPECT to see some great results by xmas!!!

wildpatch · 03/10/2007 18:46

bg, i did this for about a year. didnt lose a thing. then i went on a diet. proper one. from a book. stuck to it. continued with the gym. eight months and four dress sizes less later

BarbieGirl · 03/10/2007 18:46

I only workout for an hour 3-4 times a week. The instructor also said I should do more weights but they bore me. He tried getting me to join his classes (fat burn classes or similar) but I can't as its evenings and I don't have a babysitter.

I think he is right- I do need to step it up a bit - maybe do 2 hour workouts and lay off the chiken tikka and naan (didn't realise there were 600 cals in naan bread ).

As for measuring myself no I haven't.

That's encouraging Wildpath..

Barbie I do the same as you.. plus the occasional evening class but usually instead of a workout if I'm honest. I'm not doing 2 hour sessions though.. my energy is too precious! I am chronically sleep deprived for a start

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 03/10/2007 18:48

Wildpatch, sorry...

brimfull · 03/10/2007 18:50

I found the same thing happened to me.I only started losing when I cut out all sugary things and processed carbs and started a body pump class to tone and build muscle.

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 18:50

portiuon size

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 03/10/2007 18:51

But I'm hungry!!! On Slimming World you can HUGE portion sizes of the right foods! I know that works.. so I'm doing that again

BarbieGirl · 03/10/2007 18:51

Yeah need to reduce my portion sizes.

Do try to measure yourself because he weeks you don't lose pounds you will probably find you have lost inches. It helps keep your motivation high.
