Bald spots on my head

I’ve attached two pictures to show. I found the one near the front in April and it’s not got any smaller but also not a lot bigger. I found the second one at the back yesterday. I just noticed my hair wasn’t sitting properly and asked my husband to have a look. I have no idea what’s causing this. I don’t notice it falling out particularly but this is worrying me. Should I go to GP about this? I don’t want to lose my hair...

I would go to the GP for this, it's obviously worrying you xxx

I had this after I had my third child. I noticed a lot of postpartum hair loss, more than I'd previously had, and actually clumps came out when I brushed it. Then I found a bald patch about the size of a 10p. Dr said it was alopecia areata. I wasn't given any help or support, just told to watch and wait. This is over three years ago and it hasn't grown back but it hasn't got any worse. I do notice if I use head and shoulders shampoo I lose lots more hair in the shower so I avoid this.
Is your scalp itchy? It could also be scalp ringworm but I think its supposed to be scaly around it with that.
Honestly the best advice I can give is do not stress about it, easily said I know. Use a good shampoo that does not irritate you, take some decent vitamins and hopefully it will not get any worse. It's tiny at the moment I doubt anyone would notice.

This has (allegedly) happened to some people who’ve had Covid.

It looks quite like Alopecia Areata. Mild cases are quite common and normally regrows in roughly 6-12 months. It is best to get a GP to diagnose it or if it gets worse ask for a referral to a dermatologist. You could also ask your GP for a blood test to check iron levels etc that can also cause hair loss.

It’s not itchy and I don’t have irritation anywhere. I’m going to get some vitamins this week. I’m going to go to the gp when I get home from holiday as we’re away this week.

Is alopecia easy to diagnose?

It's easy to diagnose, although they'll probably do full blood count to check nothing else is amiss such as thyroid, iron etc, but one circular patch of hair loss does look like alopecia areata.

This is a clearer pic of the one at the back. It’s quite big.

I only had my hair cut a week ago so it’s appeared since then as she didn’t say anything and would definitely have seen that!

She might not have wanted to upset you, or assumed you already knew though? Try pulling some hair from the front towards the back and clipping it for now to hide it, but show the gp.
