Bowel issues - DH

DH has been really quite unwell with his stomach and bowels for about 2 months now. Terrible pain, bloating, diarrhoea, vomiting, hasn't eaten properly for about 4 weeks and he has lost 20lbs. He has a scalloped tongue and has been very tired.
He eventually conceded to go to the Dr... He did stool samples and blood tests, blood found in poo and inflammation markers. Not sure of the blood results. He's having an endoscopy and colonoscopy (top and tail they said on the booking line!) at the end of next week. I'm so worried about him. DC are worried as he's been so unlike himself. I know that crohns or UC are the most likely, but I can't get worse things out of my mind.

Often the worst time is before because you are worrying about what it could be. One you have a diagnoses you know what you are dealing with. If it is crohns or colitis there are very good medications now which really help. It can be a bit trial and error for a while, but hopefully they can get the right one. If he is diagnosed with IBD ( inflammatory bowel disease) he may well be put into steroids to start with depending on how bad the inflammation is, then onto Maintenance meds. Another good thing to start with is a total liquid diet like modulen. This gives the bowel a complete rest and helps lower inflammation.
My son was diagnosed with crohns when he was 8 ( now 19 ), he is currently on infliximab and doing really well.
I will say the bowel prep before scopes is often the worse thing. Your husband will need at least 2 days off work to have the prep and possibly a couple of days after depending whether he has a GA of sedation. Good luck.

@PseudoBadger how did you dh get on? Do you have any answers yet?

PseudoBadger · 26/08/2020 12:31

Thanks for asking! He had the endoscopy no problem, but had to stop the colonoscopy due to severe pain (and he has a high pain threshold!). He's very annoyed with himself. We are waiting for a CT scan appointment now...

Wishing him lots of luck,

These things can’t be helped. I hope you don’t have to wait too long.

His appointment is next Thursday Smile

That’s good, I hope all goes well.

He had it, waiting for results now. Apparently they found it very hard to get the air 'in' to him and had to have 2 goes. We are a bit worried

I’m glad that the procedure is done for him. Hoping you get the results soon and that it’s good news 💐
