Isolating after an operation - does this need to be done

My DP is having surgery on the 17th August. We only found out today. We have to isolate now until his op. He's going for a Covid test 3 days before. He was told all of this at his pre-op this morning then received a phone call once he was home to inform him about the surgery.

But although we've been told to isolate beforehand we can't seem to find out in the paperwork he was given if we need to isolate afterwards. I'm a teacher so need to go back to work on the 1st September.

Ringing to find anything out is a nightmare so wondered if anyone whose had surgery recently knew.

At our trust they do a swab on discharge as well. So maybe go home and isolate (put his feet up) for a few days until you get results.
Hope the op goes well

DH had a procedure at the hospital last week. Pre-op was about 3 days before and included a COVID swab. Then had to isolate. No requirement to isolate afterwards

DH was only in for a couple of hours

That's great thank you.

I think he will be in minimum of one night so it still gives us a decent 12/13 days before I'm back at work.

I have an operation this month and was told to isolate before but not afterwards.

Isolation is before to protect other patients and staff and because we now know that surgery if you have Covid can cause you issues.
No need to isolate after

I had surgery in June and had to isolate two weeks before and afterwards.

With shielding paused now though, if they don’t explicitly tell you to isolate for two weeks then I’d just do it for a week afterwards. Don’t want to pick anything up to slow recovery!
