Trapped nerve in neck? Please help.

For about two months I've had something going on in my neck and arms. At first it was fairly mild, when I leaned back to relax I'd get a strange sensation up my neck and through my back that would make me feel a bit sick and dizzy.

Now I have lots of pain in my neck and shoulder, but it's a strange pain not a sharp pain a weird dull hard to explain pain.My right arm keeps going weak and numb.

I had an MRI, but the symptoms were not very present that day. it showed mild nerve impingement in the neck. GP and spinal consultant and chiropractor all just said that was general wear and tear, nobody said trapped nerve. I had two chiropractic treatments, and the last one seemed to make the condition worse. I then went to a physiotherapist who did deep tissue massage in my back, this also made the condition worse.

I am now very desperate and confused,
Nobody has said it is a trapped nerve and everybody I see for treatment makes it worse.

It is made worse when I lift my right arm is that normal does this mean it is a trapped nerve or is there some other condition? Should I be trying to move around or stay still every time I move my right arm it makes it worse but I have heard that you're not supposed to lay down all the time, for the last two months I've only been able to walk around my house or lie down on my bed and notAnd not do very much I'm getting very desperate now. Sorry about all the typos I'm using dictation as I can't type it's too uncomfortable.

@LimeLemonOrange im in the same boat! But waiting for an mri! Has yours gotten better ?

I would never go to a Chiropractor, but I have been to Osteopaths for neck problems, and he was brilliant.
Check online that they are properly qualified.

Referred pain into your arm: radiculopathy. I've got herniated discs at C6 and C7, and a nerve is pinched with pain into my right arm and hand. It sounds like you may have the same.

@Starrr123 Sorry to hear that you're in the same boat! Mine is a lot better now. It's not fully vanished, I still have some issues, but they are a lot more copable with, it's more 'minor niggles' rather than stopping me getting on with normal life.

I think it was just time passing that helped mine ease off, and also staying as relaxed as possible and not getting stressed by it. Initially I was very stressed about it, wondering what it was, and I think that made it a lot worse. I can still feel the symptoms more on days that I feel stressed. I have to tell myself to relax my shoulders as that's where I hold all my tension.

usernamewastaken sorry to hear you have similar problems. Have you had / will you have the symptoms long term?

ozymandiusking I find it interesting that some people trust chiropractors and some trust osteopaths. In general GPs seem more open to chiros than osteos so I tried one this time, but I prefer osteos and I've stopped going to the chiro now.

@LimeLemonOrange i stopped the chiro gonna start physio still getting pain behind my head!
And my neck is aching not severe just not right?
Cant wait for my mri to get some answers! I think the stress of wondering whats going on is making me worse x

LimeLemonOrange · 08/11/2020 10:54

When will you get your MRI?

As you say, wondering what's going on can make you feel stressed.
