Fecal Impaction, i give in!

Okay so, my dd has been on a disimpaction dose of movicol from 4 to 6 to 8 since tuesday, shes been on 8 since thursday and right from day 1 shes had watery poo with little bits in it but no actual pieces of the impaction yet: however, when it came to the point of pure water was coming out i lowered it a little today and now shes straining to go again, she went from 8 to 4, but 4 seems to be not enough as shes producing small but really soft bowel movements but they are hard to pass. 8 gives her watery bowel movements and 4 makes them soft but really hard to pass still.. she hasnt properly been in 3 weeks and i dont know what to do. shes 15, and shes been drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruit and veg even though she has no appetite at all. PLEASE HELP.

She went into a&e on tuesday and thats when they told her to take high doses of the stuff...

Go back to A&E. At very least call 111.

As pp said give 111 a call, she may need a different laxative.

111 are useless, it was them who i rung to start with and they said they would not do anything as it was not an emergency and that they wouldnt even pass my phone number onto a doctor. i dont want to go through that whole thing again, a&e was a nightmare...

How old is your dd?

shes 15.

Have you tried massaging her belly just above her pelvic bones? I think that's the right way to describe it. Firmly pressing while she's laying down, and to put it crudely, trying to push it round. Sometimes this really helps.

I’d try senna, I think you can get it from supermarkets

This definitely sounds like something you need to speak to a doctor about. Has she always suffered or only recently?

Call your. GP Monday.

Maybe try a stimulant laxative eg senna, bisacodyl. I would take it at night with lots of water,

we have tried massage therapy, but she said all it does it make her stomach feel sore and not much else.

no this is the first time its happened. normally her constipation relieves itself in 1-2 days if she drinks more water or swaps her breakfast to something higher in fiber.

Or lactose. It works for young children too so it’s very safe.

sennakot didnt do anything either.

same thing with the gp, they said they wont see her as its not an emergency and that they have nothing for her.

have you tried a suppository?

I know it’s a bit invasive but would she be willing to try a suppository?

Not sure what sennakot is, it may be straight senna. But I’ve found senna and/or lactulose shift most things.

They wanted to give her one, but she refused as she really is squeamish about people touching her even to a doctor.

Do you have a kids potty in the house? Squatting very low might help to move things along. I discovered this by accident when having painful impaction myself.

How do you know she's impacted? Maybe it's passed?

Could she put a suppository in herself? Its surprisingly easy. Could even put a bit of lube on.

because when i went to a&e they told her she was. so thats why shes on high doses of movicol and its lead to her having water come out right from day 1, so i reduced it but now shes back to small bowel movements that while they are super soft, she cant pass them...

Have you been for a long walk? Exercise helps me more than anything.
If she’s taken laxatives maybe go for a long walk but stay close to home just in case!

Also I find watermelon helps me too and I would be careful eating too much stodgy food as this may block her up even more but watermelon is quite light. And mints like polos help - probably not the healthiest but sometimes you do what you have to do.
