I've got awful pain in the base of my third back left tooth.

It feels as if it is in the root - I wondered at first if it was sensitivity from receding gums but now I'm wondering if it needs a filling in the side. Really don't want to lose it as it would be so visible.

Any ideas how to manage untimely can ring a dentist on Monday? Have done salt water rinses and ibuprofen. I do have some sensodyne somewhere but I don't know where it is Confused

The only thing that works for dental pain is paracetamol and ibuprofen. If you stagger them it works best.
Take 2 paracetamol then 2 hours later take 2 ibuprofen then repay until you reach the daily limit.
If it's keeping you awake, there's swelling etc you can call NHS24 on 111 and they will arrange an emergency out of our appointment.

Clove oil works for dental pain if you can stomach the disgusting taste.

I don’t find paracetamol or ibuprofen work for dental pain myself.

Try warmth or cold see if that helps with the throbbing. Some dentists are open on a Saturday morning so could ring for an emergency appointment.
