Ive suffered from migraines for years. Currently I take triptans which do help but it's still a day written off. I've had a lot of time off work because of the bastard things and I'm fed up.
Have tried most of the preventatives-amitriptilyne etc but to no real effect. Went to the GP before Christmas to discuss trying Topomax and she referred me to the neurology dept
Because of covid I'm still waiting for that appointment. I chased it up the other day and was told that it would probably still be months before I got the initial appointment.
I moved house and am now with a new gp. I'm just wondering if it's worth going to them and asking if they can start me on Topomax to see if it has an effect while I wait for neurology because honestly, I need to do something, I'm fed up with missing work, fed up with my children missing out because all I can do is lie on the sofa while they watch tv. Just had enough of it. I'm just not sure if this is a drug that needs a specialist to prescribe before GPS take over repeat prescriptions.
I've gone to osteopaths, I've tried various balms and massages, I'm even getting a daith piercing this weekend as a last ditch attempt
I know that Topomax is a big beast of a drug so I don't go into this lightly but I figure at least I can work out if the migraines or the drug side effects are the worst thing to deal with.
Anyone got experience of this or a gp themselves I'd appreciate knowing if it's worth a shot even asking my new dr to prescribe!
