On my knuckle, it's not a wart and it's not from rubbing on anything.

Any ideas?

Can't see the photo but does it hurt? It could be the start of arthritis

justoverthehorizon · 06/08/2020 14:24

ganglion? There is no pic?

nolovelost · 06/08/2020 14:24

Sorry messed up there! I do have a couple of types of arthritis including inflammatory and my knuckles do hurt sometimes but the lump doesn't!

Is it squidgy? It looks like a ganglion

justilou1 · 08/08/2020 00:13

Looks like a ganglion cyst to me. They have a root that goes deep down into the joint and they are filled with the jelly-like synovial fluid that lubricates joints (like when people have surgery for a herniated disc in their back.) For the love of god, don’t take anyone’s advice and smash it with a Bible. You will probably break your finger. It can be aspirated with a needle, but will probably come back. Or surgically removed. I have had two huge ones removed from the back of my wrist. (I have a medical condition that causes them.) The scar is almost invisible!

Thanks for the replies!

@justilou1 was thinking it may be that and no I won't hit it with a bible!!

I'm expecting to get more of them to be honest, my knuckles don't exactly look normal! I'm lucky that I have osteoarthritis in other joints and inflammatory arthritis too!

Pleased you’re not going to whack it! (The number of people that told me to do that! 🤦🏼‍♀️) Mine was already dislocating my thumb and my hand surgeon looked at my hand, asked me a lot about my medical history, and at 48yrs of age diagnosed me with a health condition that would have saved me a lot of pain had I known about it when I was growing up!
