Okay so I've had a wart at the top of my bum crack for a few years. I get it periodically cryotherapied whenever I go to somewhere that does it(eg when I go for smears). It is tiny and doesn't usually pose an issue much. However I went in a hot tub last weekend against my better judgement and it has flared up to hell :(
It's weeping and sore and painful and I'm absolutely TERRIFIED because I'm thinking it will spread and/or never get any better :(

I cannot get to a place that can freeze it for me until Monday. I can't go to the loo without wincing. I'm thinking cleaning it with tea tree oil or salt water and then applying antiseptic is best to do? Anything else? I am almost crying about it and I'm 36 years old . It's pathetic. Any ideas at all?

I'd go get it checked by the doctor . It sounds like it may be infected . In the meantime your plan of action sounds good . Maybe get a dressing and keep it covered too

Serialcatmum · 05/08/2020 23:12

Much worse things in life than a wart!

Think you need to see the DR as you may need antibiotics.

Sounds like a good plan to clean it up and cover it until then.

StylishMummy · 05/08/2020 23:20

I had one on my leg years ago and I tied cotton around the base of it, it shrivelled up and dropped off. Have a tiny dot of a scar

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 05/08/2020 23:33

Apple Cider vinegar on cotton wool over the top, taped down. Leave it for a couple of days, and it should fall off

Pleasehelpwart · 05/08/2020 23:35

As I've said I can't get there until Monday. It doesn't usually pose a problem but its red and weepy. I do think it has reacted badly to the hot tub.
@StylishMummy I can't do that, It's up my bum crack!

I'd do savlon or something, not tea tree oil which can be quite harsh.

Pharmacy visit for advice? You might need something to dry it out rather than a cream which will kept it moist.

Pleasehelpwart · 05/08/2020 23:42

@QuestionableMouse thank you. I've used dettol. I didn't use tea tree. I used salt water to clean it. Just hope its better tomorrow.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pilonidal-sinus/

Possibility?

Pleasehelpwart · 06/08/2020 00:05

@NotanotherboxofFrogs oh! Seriously maybe it is that?! Why has no medical professional ever said so??

Pilonodialsinus was my first thought too. We do see them quite regularly ( nurse)

frustrationcentral · 06/08/2020 00:37

It does sound like a pilonidal sinus, I have one - absolute bastard thing

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 06/08/2020 02:17

There's a version of Germolene that has a mild anaesthetic in it, try that to stop it hurting so much. Hope you get it sorted soon 😭

Hopefulhen · 06/08/2020 02:22

I finally got rid of a wart by covering it in duct tape and only removing the tape when I had a hot bath.

FlamedToACrisp · 06/08/2020 02:59

Would applying ice help with the pain, at least? I doubt it would do any harm.

Pleasehelpwart · 06/08/2020 12:30

Thank you everyone. I'm so grateful for your replies. It's weeping today but not as painful.

Pleasehelpwart · 06/08/2020 23:19

@frustrationcentral has anything helped with it?

OP posts:
frustrationcentral · 06/08/2020 23:25

I had it operated on about 19 years ago, which didn't do much. I think it healed too quickly so left the cyst to be open under the skin.

For the past few years the flare ups haven't been so painful, but more frequent. Dodgy things for me are sitting for a long time and not having a frequent bath ( only showering). Once they flare up they usually drain within 24/48 hours (sorry TMI!!)

Pleasehelpwart · 07/08/2020 02:51

Thank you for replying @frustrationcentral. What causes them? Like what have I done to deserve this?! I hope it goes soon. So annoying.

A hot compress has helped me with this and a procedure to try and clear it out.

Apologies for the message above being so short and abrupt, I was on the laptop at the time and my space bar isn't currently working and my keyboard was in the other room and I was being lazy.

frustrationcentral · 07/08/2020 23:31

@Pleasehelpwart , it's usually a tiny hole in your skin which allows hair/dead skin etc to get into the pit. I believe it tends to inflict men more - due to them having hairy backs etc, so keeping hair away from the area is important. Mine is definitely aggravated by sitting for long periods, so if I'm not well and chose to have a lazy day I'm always careful not to sit for long periods in the same position. I think being over weight can aggravate it too?
I've known plenty of slim non hairy women who have had one too!

Do you do a job that requires you to sit for long periods? If so you could try and coccyx cushion to try and avoid pressure in the area?

ThatBliddyWoman · 08/08/2020 10:26

@frustrationcentral thank you. I'm not overweight but for various reasons I'm sitting a lot more than usual at the moment.
