I had a private health check recently, most of which was fine, except that my cholesterol was flagged. I got a mix of ok, high, optimal, but seemed to come out over all as abnormally high?? These are the results I got:

Triglyceride/HDL ratio - normal (1.2:1)
LDL - high 4.8 (range of 0 - 4.9)
Non-HDL Cholesterol - high 5.9 (range of 0 - 6)
HDL cholesterol - optimal 1.9 (range of 0 - 3)
Overall cholesterol - abnormal - 7.7 ( range of 0 - 7.5)

So do I need to be worried?? Any insights very welcome!

Your results do point towards high cholesterol. Normal is below 5.7 and high is between 5.7 -7.5. Yours is bit higher than that. Talk to your GP about it. You should avoid eating sugar and fried foods. Also get a blood sugar test done but your GP will do that for you.

Put that data along with age/height/weight etc into an online QRISK calculator.

QRISK tells you your risk of having a cardiac event in the next ten years.

If your QRISK is above 10%, then your GP will recommend you start taking statins to manage your cholesterol.
