Toothache advice

Hi all.... I desperate for some advice ....had toothache last week may ... been self isolating Due to fear and PMH .... as nurse found some antibiotics and it dampened it ... felt like familiar pain had before upper tooth root Filled 2 years ago ... it came back dentist NHS wouldn’t see me prescribed amoxicillin over phone ... it helped abit but soon came back ..more metronidazole this time and put me on list to be seen .... the pain only muted but giving me intractable neck ache and mild headache and sore throat at front on that side .... They saw me end June and XR not showing much and when they tapped upper right teeth ... it wasn’t agony or that tender ... dentist said needed to refer me to max fax and gave me more ABs ( 4 flipping courses had now)...it started up again such neck ache horrid taste ache upper jaw ... in desperation asked for private referral to see which came first ... I saw private max fax... ( very senior well known doc ) on wed and he says TMJD ... I think he thought it stress related .... I am stressed but so desperate to get rid pain and infection and avoid Covid anyone would be stressed...the NHS doc saw me today and I went through tale again told him I seen a colleague out of courtesy and he said may be TMJD .... I asked all right questions like taste ,responds to abs But quick exam ... none of them gave or offered me XR or Ct and today it is all flaring up again... sore throat ,cold Pain above Teeth upper right Teeth not quite fitting together.... i genuinely distressed ... it’s three days since metronidazole finished.... I know it’s a infection ...I feel off it and if I do have TMJD ( which I don’t think have )doesn’t Mean I can’t get a abscess .....is there anyone who can give any advice and so sorry to be a wuz

This sounds awful.

You need a dentist not a doctor, are there still no services in your area? I think a whole day googling and phoning is needed.

Can you pay if necessary? The issue appears to be getting someone to see you.

Thanks for answering....I have seen the dentist at beginning of July ... seen her three times now ... she’s couldn’t see prob on XR and said ‘if ‘ a tooth needed to come out she couldn’t do it .. so refereed me to max fax, private and nhs private saw me first but no XR or anything .... listened to long saga on wed said its TMJD ... wants me to take amitripyline ... which I of course will try anything and NHS dr max fax saw me yesterday am and agreed with private max fax it all coming back since being of antibiotics on Monday .., my neck hurts my upper teeth throbbing ( like before root canal ) and cheek red .... I’m at whits end 🙁 today thinking of ring round all again

Did you have a ring round, any progress?

Sorry don't have any advice but didn't want to read and run.
Would say if your gut feeling is that something is wrong then don't let them fob you off, keep pushing!

Hi all ... I rang hp this am and explained flippin story ... she agreed to prescribe amitriptyline in advance if first max fax drs letter ... I didn’t want to be non compliant but told her I believed it was infection and face swollen and it was all coming back... she said surprised given history that diagnosed TMJD without eliminating infection with new XR or CBCT... she said to ring back max fax at local hospital and explain again ... I did this and SHO that I saw yesterday did ring back .... said no indication of abscess fromXR send from beginning July from nhs dentist and I’d been given a treatment plan and to take amitripyline ... she said I did not need a XR ... I was upset and explained bout swelling and throbbing in tooth jaw back and I said I was embarrassed to be making fuss but really feel there’s a infection somewhere ... she said I being difficult and could not help ..... this even ing ... my cheek is a little swollen and pink ... pain in upper jaw and throbbing and neck acing ... I really think it’s infection as 5 days again since finished last ABs ( which only muted pain) and keeps returning ... family getting fed up me now ... I’ll have try to ride it out .. hope pray it doesn’t get systemic .. thanks for listening 🙁🌈

Im a dental nurse and it doesn't sound right that they're fobbing you off. Unfortunately not all root canals are a success and definitely sounds like you have an infection especially if the tooth which had the root canal on was tender on touching.
Sounds like the tooth just needs to be pulled in all honesty if the RCT has failed.

I would seek another opinion though as not sure why they are not doing treatment. We are doing treatment albeit not very much as have to spread the treatments out.

Toothache is up their with labour so don't be fobbed off.
