Breakthrough bleeding and mini pill

So about a week ago I swopped from the combination pill to the mini pill on recommendation of the GP as I am over 50. For the last 2 days I've had continuous breakthrough bleeding, enough to need a towel. Is this like a period and will it stop after a few days? Or is it likely to carry on indefinitely until the 3 month mark where my internet research tells me it may, or may not settle down?

Am properly fed up with it. I've taken the combined pill for nearly 30 years with absolutely no issue whatsoever and the GP said while they recommend the mini pill my risk factors were so low, he'd be happy for me to stay on it if I really wanted. The mini pill just seems a really crap option at the moment.

Hi, I was on the mini pill and for the furst few months, I was having what felt like two periods a month! It really freaked me out, especially as I've had an abnormal smear before so I was worried it was something sinister. Came off it...back to normal. I've tried it twice since my second DC was born two years ago and had the same thing happen. So I went to my GP who kind of dismissed it and said I could expect 'spotting' on the mini pill...but I've heard so many women say they have experienced proper bleeding with it! I'm now back on the combined pill, GP warned me I can only be on it for a few more years as I'm in my early 40s. But DH was due to get the snip in May (obviously cancelled due to lockdown) so hopefully won't be an issue once that's sorted.

So yes, i think bleeding on the mini pill is far more common than they'd have you believe. I've heard it is meant to settle down after a few months?

Sorry just seen what you wrote about it settling down. I just didn't want to keep having to put up with it and it was freaking me out a bit. I'm annoyed at the blase attitude that some GPs seem to have towards it...semi constant bleeding is massively inconvenient especially when you're used to no problems with the combined pill! Good luck, hope it settles down for you.

I bled lightly for about three months and my skin was awful BUT it did calm down and now it's all good!

I started on the mini pill about thus time last year, and had intermittent bleeding through until about December - very light compared to my usual period, but enough to be annoying. I didn’t need a tampon, a liner was fine. I then had no period until June, and in July have had on and off spotting. I honestly think it’s stress here, although I am 47 so who knows.
