Debilitating IBS?

5 years ago I travelled abroad and got an upset stomach so bad that I was hospitalised for a month.

Since then I've had running to the loo all the time IBS.

I've taken lots of medical advice.

Loperamide even a low dose made me itch all over and bunged me up completely. The GP had to prescribe an enema and laxatives which made it worse.

Since then I take high dose codeine. It works but I'd prefer not to take codeine every day. If I stop taking it I go to the loo upwards of 10 times a day and often through the night too. Even taking codeine I go to the loo at least twice a day.

On the advice of the dietician I tried the FODMAP diet then was advised to stop after 4 months because I was in danger of becoming malnourished.

I have no appetite but try to eat sensibly. Different food and stress don't seem to affect it either way. I exercise gently when I can. 5 years ago I was running 5k 5 times a week.

Some days are better than others. I'm not sure what else I can do. Is there anything that has worked for anyone? At this point I'd try anything.
