Weak eye muscles

Have been struggling with headaches, especially after driving, for the last 2 weeks. Have seen an optician, eyesight ok - mild astigmatism in 1 eye and mildly (0.25) short sighted in the other.
They said weak muscles in one eye, sent me away with an exercise and said come back in 2 weeks. If I wasn't in pain, they wouldn't recommend glasses but if exercised haven't helped, they'll look at that but it won't fix the problem, just make it easier for my eyes to switch between distances.

Now I think about it, I've definitely be closing the weak eye when things have been getting uncomfortable like Mumsnet during bedtime for months but the headaches now are horrendous, lasting most of the day and paracetamol not even taking the edge off.

Dr Google tells me a whole range of not great things could cause eye muscle weakness/double vision. Just wonder if any one has experience?

A headache that extreme would be very unlikely to be caused by an eye muscle imbalance. Are you getting any other symptoms like nausea? Any history of headaches or head trauma?

When are you due to go back to the opticians. If it’s today or tomorrow, (or if they can see you today or tomorrow - then I’d go there first.

There’s a couple of things they can look which may point out what the problem is. They may not have been evident at your last exam. They can also do a visual field test, which may be useful.

Do you have any other health conditions? Or are you overweight?

Oh, if you can’t get to the opticians, by Tuesday am, I’d ask for an urgent drs appointment - it will need to be face-face for them to check your optic nerve.

History of tension headaches but not for years, definitely not bad in the last 5 and 10 years since medicated. Have had 2 children since. Slightly over weight but only 1/2 stone or so.

A few general aches and niggles, potential RSI in one hand but put down to work use/phone use. Opticians not till 1st week of August. They took a photo of the nerves and said they'd be in touch if it showed anything.

I can get a video gp appointment today.

111 tried to send an ambulance last night, DH drove as quicker but once there was given out of hours gp who recommended the blood tests. Own gp saying no, just wait it out. Probably viral. Haven't been anywhere to pick up a virus! They'll call me again next week Confused
