Struggling to pee

A couple of weeks ago I had UTI and had a week of nitrofurution. Symptoms seemed to go away although I had some urgency.
Urine retention isn’t a new issue for me (doctors think it’s neurological due to my disability) Usually I can go a while without peeing and feel fine.

My last pee was at 10 am and I haven’t been able to go since. The bladder pressure and pain is quite bad. I haven’t drank a lot today because I didn’t want to make the pressure feeling worse.

I feel quite anxious with it too which is probably making the issue worse.

Does anyone have any tips for making yourself pee or ways to calm myself down so it’ll come out eventually?

Have you tried some pelvic stretches? How tight is it down there? are you holding stress in your pelvic muscles, check are they fully relaxed?

if you don't go, I would seek help, urine retention can be serious.

? Sit in a warm bath? Try to relax your jaw too.
But do be aware you might need to see someone.

Thank you for the replies I’m not sure about my pelvic muscles all muscles are quite tight due to my cerebral palsy. I’ll try a bath and see if that helps. I’m wary of drinking more without peeing but I’m thirsty so I’ll have to.
Ahh it’s so annoying. I’d love to just pee without a second thought. I’m wondering if the infection is still lingering or it’s how my body reacts to stress. I start a new job tomorrow so it’s not ideal!
Is there such a thing as psychological retention?

Don't leave it too long before seeking medical help!

You need to go to the hospital and have a catheter inserted to drain your bladder. If you leave it to long you could affect your kidneys and make yourself very poorly.

I’ve just managed to go it was cloudy so I think I’ll drop a sample off at the GP’s just in case the infection is back. Phew! Thank you for the helpful replies

Tell the gp about your difficulty in peeing as once in the morning and once in the evening isn’t very much.

My friend was taught how to insert her own catheter so she could go after bladder surgery. They prefer not to use catheters but if you have to do that you have to. It’s dangerous to hold in body waste products. Please tell the gp. They will know what best to do to help you.
