Can I give DC Iron + Vit. C on an empty stomach?

Hello,

Is it OK to give DC (7 and 3) liquid iron and chewable vitamin C (to help absorption) first thing in the morning (30 min. before breakfast?). Although they are both age-appropriate, I'm a little concerned that the Vit. C on an empty stomach would be too harsh on their tummies. A health professional's input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have they been told by their GP that iron is required? Too much iron is dangerous as it stores up in the body.
On an empty stomach the iron is absorbed better and is preferable but could cause feelings of sickness and stomach pain, diarrhoea or constipation.
I would give it with something to eat.

Only give open if told to. No, don’t give on an empty stomach. It hurts - experience!

Why are you giving your children iron? You should only be giving your children iron on the say-so of a medical professional they are being treated by for iron deficiency.

However your 3 year old should be on vitamins A, C and D www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/vitamins-for-children/

I think you're meant to give it on an empty stomach but i would highly recommend not doing it. I just end up feeling really sick if i have it on an empty stomach and I am 32

I wouldn't. It makes me vomit. I try to take it a bit after food.
