Shingles nerve pain

Hi,
A few weeks ago, I experienced a burning stinging pain to the side of my left knee, notably felt when I knelt down. A couple of days later, a small red rash appeared. That rash has since darkened in color but the pain continues. I have phoned the GP three times and on the final call with the help of a photo of the rash, she diagnosed shingles. Too late for anti virals, but this nerve pain is getting me down now. GP prescribed amitriptyline but it makes me groggy regardless of the time of day taken.

Has anyone else experienced this nerve pain and how long did it take to go?

Many thanks

Yes - on my face - took a few weeks to go, but even now , after a year, it can still tingle if I am tired.
Sorry, that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s a bugger.
