Fingers locking straight every morning

Hi. I've had problems with fingers locking straight on and off for years but usually when ive held them in a straight position for a while and was never painful.
Last few weeks though I'm waking up every morning with fingers locked straight on one hand, no pain until I start to move them and then it's really painful until I'm able to move them freely. The other hand isn't as bad but still there.
Im also getting a lot of discomfort and burning pain randomly in the day in my fingers and thumb joints even just turning car key.
Last few months its been a struggle at times to get up from the ground and walk - takes a little while until I can walk normally.
I'm 45 and really dont want it to be arthritis. No partner and a shit load of diy work to do to sell a house I can't afford.
Any one else have fingers stuck straight like this in morning - what what was the cause?
I'm getting a call back today from gp but put off before as hoped it would go away. Can't ignore any longer.

I'm 60 and a similar thing began to affect me around 10 years ago. My fingers would lock for a few seconds and click quite loudly. Since that started, the joints near my finger tips on 3 of my fingers have become a little swollen, sometimes painful if knocked, and am unable to apply much force with them - eg open a jam jar.

In my case it is arthritis as I have it in several other places too. But I need my hands to work as fully as possible - as do you - as I'm an artist. So as I believe in self-help I began to gently massage them along with the palms and back of hands and wrists, and now also do stretching exercises with them. This is easily done when watching tv. I also wear fingerless gloves in winter to keep the joints warm, and sometimes sit holding a warmed wheatbag.It's good prevention practise as I prefer to do these things rather than take painkillers.

My hands haven't improved massively, but they haven't worsened either, though they do not click or lock anymore, so I'm happy to maintain the status quo as it is manageable for me.

tingling or pins and needles
a weak thumb or difficulty gripping
These symptoms often start slowly and come and go. They're usually worse at night.

I've just copied the above from a site re CarpalTunnel, so from what you've said it doesn't sound like that.

Did your GP call you back - any ideas?

I had this last year for a few months, while I was pregnant. It self resolved at some point- I’d forgotten all about it until reading your post! No idea what was causing it though.

Hi. Gp referred me for blood test and xray of hands and got appointment for these tomorrow.
