Permanent marker pens

Hello
This may be a stupid question but I have searched the net and can’t really find any advice...

Can permanent markers still pose an issue once they have been used - I caught my daughter smelling the ink on an envelope - I smelt it and it still had a strong smell despite it being relatively dry.

Worried now it has caused her some damage? X

I thought with smelling solvents the health risk was that you could drop dead at the time or shortly afterwards, like with glue sniffing, rather than long-term damage.

I used to love the vapour coming out of the art room after they'd been silk printing - unless it's proven that a statistically significant proportion of all art teachers do develop brain issues later in life, I think a one-off sniff will be harmless.
