Ultrasound on Neck ....

Bex1517 · 03/07/2020 17:43

So... my husband has had three neck lumps for a few months now. He had an ultrasound today. I told him to ask questions but of course he didn't. I'm worried as he said she took like 8 pictures and said the GP will be in touch with results. I'm thinking there must be something wrong. Why would she take 8 pics. She also asked if he suffers from sore throats or ear aches. Which he doesn't Course I'm thinking the worse as I always do 😫.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Hi yes I had a neck ultrasound for two lumps. What you've described sounds like normal procedure and not something that I think should cause you to worry. In my case the sonographer took multiple photos- even of areas of the neck where I couldn't feel lumps- and the photos had to be reviewed by a doctor before they told me the lumps were reactive lymph nodes.

The lumps were hard and fixed and had been there for about two months so not your typical reactive nodes but thankfully turned out to be ok and the doctor thought they had come up due to a lot of stress I was under at the time.

I had the question about sore throats and ear aches too - I think because it looked as though I was fighting an infection although I wasn't aware of anything at the time.

@creamorwhite thank you for your reassurance 🙂. I'm always a worse case scenario kind of person.

Yes so was I, I was convinced I had cancer. Utterly convinced. Let us know how he gets on, in the vast majority of cases ultrasounds return benign results.

Bex1517 · 04/07/2020 14:41

@creamorwhite I will do thanks. How long did you wait for GP to call

I didn't get a call and chased it up after five working days then they called back and gave me the results.

@creamorwhite our GP initially referred him to ENT but they sent a message back saying ultrasound first... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ultrasound was my first appointment straight after the GP appointment too. The ultrasound will be able to show if there is anything for the ENT department to investigate, as it could be a cyst, fatty lump or swollen lymph gland which would require no further investigations.

My two lumps are still there and visible when I put my head to one side. Usually lymph glands are soft and only swell when you have an infection but my GP said it's not uncommon for them to stay swollen for months or even longer sometimes and apparently these are just very close to the surface of my neck and have come up and never gone down again.

@creamorwhite ah I see! We thought this was all to do with a toothache he had as he felt them around the same time. But dentist said for where they are kinda below to the back of his ears that a dental issue wouldn't cause that 🤷🏼‍♀️. He does seem a little more tired than normal but being a postman and the fact it's so busy just now I hope it's to do with that. 🥴. His aren't visible. I'm pretty sure they have shrunk since we initially found them ...

@creamorwhite hey. So he had results. Dr thinks reactive lymph nodes due to his toothache that he's had... but still referring him to ENT... 🙄😖

Glad he's had results and it's looking like reactive lymph nodes. Did they say why he's being referred to GP? How would you describe the lump now has it changed at all?

creamorwhite · 16/07/2020 20:51

Sorry meant to say why he's been referred to ENT

Bex1517 · 17/07/2020 06:04

@creamorwhite well he was initially referred to ENT but they said ultrasound first. Dr said it's a follow up... not sure if he's being extra cautious or my husband isn't telling me something 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Bex1517 did the results come out fine after the ENT? I have a lump on my neck too and been referred for ultrasound so just soooo anxious that it could be cancer 😭

JustLaura · 28/05/2024 00:21

Hi @Asiyasheikh

I've had a recent ultrasound on a neck/shoulder lump. It's standard procedure when you've had the lump for a period of time. My ultrasound did not show anything untoward so I have now been referred for an MRI.

My lump is still there and appears to swell more at times. My swelling is soft and in the supraclavicular fossa region.

Do you have any pain from it?

Try not to worry. Easier said than done I know.

Bex1517 · 28/05/2024 07:22

@Asiyasheikh hey. My husband's turned out to be an infected tooth that was causing his glands to swell. Sorry to hear you are going through this. So stressful.
