Thyroid Cyst - please tell me your experiences

Have had a throat problem for a few months, symptoms have got worse over the last couple of weeks so have been to get checked out. Slight rasping voice, an effort to speak sometimes, pain in my upper shoulder/lower neck and weirdly a pain between my shoulder blades. I can feel something when swallowing but isnt very uncomfortable. Earache/behind the ear pain. A lump on the front of my neck, but not noticeable on just looking.
Doc thinks it is a cyst on my thyroid and am being referred to check it out.
If anyone has had similar and can let me know what happened that would be great. The good and the bad are fine as I like to know what I may be dealing with.

Thank you

I have just had an ultrasound of my thyroid today due to a lump on my neck that appeared in pregnancy. Radiographer had a good look and said its a thyroid nodule and they will rescan in 6 months. I was warned before the scan i may need a biopsy but radiographer didnt think it was necessary.
She also said thyroid looked a bit 'patchy' so has advised gp to do antibody bloods for thyroiditis. My TSH was all normal in initial bloods.
I dont have any symptoms though, just the lump.

Thanks for the reply @GentlyGentlyOhDear, sorry to hear of the nodule - not what you need when pregnant along with everything else!

That is good they are keeping an eye on you. I have blood tests booked in so I presume they are checking all the antibodies too which will set my whirling mind at rest a bit

Mine burst overnight. Not nice to wake up to but the consultant was going to poke at it and burst it. I'm glad it happened naturally.

I had x-rays to confirm it was there. No pain anywhere apart from my throat. It felt like something was stuck there.

It burst overnight?! Oh goodness that sounds painful Shock

This is going to sound stupid sorry, but if it is inside your throat how do you know it has burst? I dont think mine is that big, so not sure I would realise straight away

You know it has burst because you wake up with a mouth full of pus.

I had one when I was 18. Surgery was advised but wait and watch was also an option. So I waited for 1.5 years. The cyst became big and started pushing my trachea so I had slight breathing issues when sleeping in some position. Finally had a surgery , had one cyst golf ball size and some smaller nodules. The surgeon took out half of the gland too. Biopsy was clear before and after the surgery. Thyroid levels are still normal after 20 years.

Thank you @Literallyfedup. That is good to know all is still ok with you, especially with half the gland being taken out too x
