Thyroid and pregnancy

I saw my GP 4 months ago for heart palpitations and had a blood test to get my thyroid checked. I only got to speak to the receptionist to get the results who said it was "fine". Since then however, the heart palpitations have become more frequent, I also feel fatigued, even after a long night's sleep, my period are heavier/more irregular and my skin is dry. I am very healthy and a runner, and lately feel very low on energy during my runs.

We are thinking of trying to conceive but I have read that thyroid problems can be an issue. Should I push for another bloodtest, or do you think that it's fine as it can't have changed in just 4 months?
I doubt my GP is going to have bandwidth for something which isn't urgent like this though. Any ideas if I can get this done privately, or does someone have experience using these companies that do blood tests through the post? Sounds ideal not having to go anywhere, but not sure how trustworthy/reliable they are.
Many thanks!
