Anyone had a nerve conduction study and EMG?

I’m having these tests in July and wondered if anyone can share experiences of them. Was it painful? How did you feel afterwards? Anything you wish you’d known or thought to bring with?

DH is taking me there and back, so that’s not an issue. I am wondering if I need to remove my navel piercing, but have had no luck trying to find out.

Meant to say because that’s the one piercing I have, not because of that type in particular.

I’m probably too old for it now anyway

I had this last summer!! It was SO weird but absolutely fine.

The only one that hurt was the one on the neck. Maybe because the skin is so thin?

They were so powerful it made me fall off the bed 😂 and I accidentally hit the consultant. It’s a bit weird not being able to control your body movements.

I’d take your piercings out anyway! From memory I had to wear clothes without metal.

I felt fine afterwards - I think I went for a run

I had one about 4 or 5 years ago. I drove myself there and back. Felt fine afterwards. Was a little uncomfortable at times but I wouldn't say painful. They have to use pins to prick you so that may draw blood. But I really wouldn't say it was painful so please don't worry. It was found that I had nerve irritation in my upper arm so definitely worth having the test done

Just want to add that I didn’t have needles. I had electrodes & sticky patches (I think). I was pleasantly surprised

The needles bit scared me but I think that's because I had intermittent numbness of the hand. I'm not sure they do this with every test but in my experience they did. But honestly it was fine

I've had it done twice and it was fine.

I was really apprehensive with the first one but the Dr was lovely and it was fine. I had the sensation of the needles but it wasn't like an injection or anything. Wasn't really pain, maybe like a pin prick? Can't really describe it but I'm generally a coward about these things and I honestly found it fine.

I had mine in my leg - not sure if it makes any difference?

I’m having my arms and legs tested. I’ve had tattoos and acupuncture before so I’m hoping it will be fine

The arm I have tested is a sleeve tattoo. Still scared me lol. But honestly its just a weird sensation. Good luck

Im supposed to have these done next week but im a big baby so ive got an appt for an ultrasound first so will see what the diagnosis of that is first. Id have the conduction test if i have to but i dont like the sound of emg one.

Hopefully the ultrasound will be enough to diagnose you, but honestly the needles are tiny. Its like a pin prick but they have to insert them to be able to get the readings

In my case I’m just desperate for some answers after so long being poked and prodded and tested for different things!

Just wanted to add to this. Today I and a nerve conduction study test, where they used the patches and the needles. I know everyone’s different at tolerating diff things but I am bit of a baby with medical things and found this tolerable.
The needles were definitely better than the patches. But honestly don’t be worried sick about it, it’s fine. 😊
