Phantom smoke?

Hi,

Right now i am smelling smoke, feeling bit suffocated and eyes feeling like its going to water but nope. DH doesn't smell it. So am i imagining it?

Ive been having this couple of times amd i cannot explain it except i feel like somebody is burning something in our garde or someone is smoking very close to me, you know that feeling physically? Its the same!

Anyone experienced it? I notice its usually at night and none of our neighbours are doing anything that could explain this.

Hay fever? Mine takes this kind of route too. It's much worse at night.

Snozzlemaid · 17/06/2020 22:28

I think sinus issues can cause you to smell smoke

namechangenumber2 · 17/06/2020 23:39

Yep another saying maybe hay fever? Mine is awful at the moment, especially first thing in the morning and late at night Sad. I've never had such a bad year

weathervane1 · 17/06/2020 23:56

When I get hay fever badly, it's as if I've got a nose full of mustard seeds (oil seed rape is the worst) - slightly musty and slightly smoky.

Interesting! It never occurred to me it could be hay fever. I did have issues this spring, rashes on hands etc. But not very severe though!

Yes I have had this and it started around mid March. Random smoke smell out of nowhere and can be quite overpowering. It happens most days. I spoke to my GP and they sent me for a head scan to rule out rumours. The scan was clear. So now they're sending me to a neurologist to rule out temporal lobe epilepsy- I'm waiting on the appointment. I dont have any other symptoms and am fine health wise but they said these explorations are standard for this symptom. When I was trying to research it it also said it could be a symptom of migraines, and that you can actually have migraines without knowing about them, which I didn't know. I would give your GP a call just to be on the safe side.

Tumours not rumours Hmm

Tolleshunt · 18/06/2020 07:27

You should speak to your GP about this.

LostaraYil · 18/06/2020 07:33

Yes, I have had this! A couple of years ago it was every evening, went on for months! I think it started in the summer and carried on into the autumn so it roughly co-incided with hayfever season. Now I get it occasionally but it's not regular. I also have periods where I lose my sense of smell for a few weeks at a time (not recently). I never bothered seeing a doctor as I figured it's allergy related, and I have sometimes used a decongestant nose spray more than I should so I think that may have messed me up.

romdowa · 18/06/2020 07:42

I get phantom smells as part of my migraine aura. Strangely you can get the aura and no head pain , it's called a silent migraine. Best to get on to your dr though just in case.

goldenochre · 18/06/2020 09:08

Oh yes. Migranes!

Before i had my DC (before 2017) i used to have this severe headaches that sometimes i have to "squeeze" my head to feel better 🤷🏽‍♀️ i know sounds crazy 🤦🏽‍♀️ but now i dont get that many headaches anymore but these smoke smells! Its one sec its full on smell i find it baffling that nobody else smell it. We dont smoke so theres really no source.

Omg losing smell while having periods sounds awful x

Have you had a Coronavirus swab? Rash on hands could be Covid related.

goldenochre · 18/06/2020 09:24

I dont this it is covid. I have these rashes during spring time, then again everything now coincides with covid 🤷🏽‍♀️

The rashes are gone after gp prescribed me an ointment. My point was thats the only problem i had related to hay fever in my life so far
