Hi everyone

I have been having some tummy issues and wondered if anyone could tell me what their symptoms were pre coeliac diagnosis.
Also, once you eliminated gluten how quickly did you notice an effect?

Thanks

Hi, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year when I had a series of blood tests done. My levels were very high, although at the time I didn't't think I'd been having symptoms. In retrospect I recognise that I did have some mild symptoms. They were mostly discomfort in my lower abdomen, a bit like that cramps feeling before a period starts accompanied by going to the toilet more frequently on those days. I started the gluten free diet, and had to learn what the sensation of being full after a meal was like. That sounds weird, I know, but once I was no longer eating gluten I didn't get that same full feeling after a meal. I've been told I probably felt bloated before and thought that feeling was 'being full'. My blood levels are now close to normal and I can honestly say I've never felt better.

Oh by the way, it took about 2 weeks for me to realise their was a difference between 'gluten me' and 'non gluten me!'

I've just been told I have coeliac disease. I need a biopsy to confirm but GP is pretty sure from blood tests. I get bloated, windy and have horrible loose floaty poos. Also a general sense of not being quite ok. I'm kind of relieved that it's "only" coeliac at this stage as I was starting to get worried.

Dc was diagnosed about 11 years ago.
Symptoms included projectile vomiting, loose stools and urgency (smell like viniger and are yellow), lethargic, anaemia, patches of alopecia, lost weight.
Within two weeks he started to notice the difference.
Don't stop eating gluten until you've been tested as you could then get, a false negative.
The coeliac society have some great information.
