Suppositories for constipation

Hi,

I have a rectocele that causes immense problems with incomplete emptying.

My colorectal consultant told me its safe to use suppositories daily. Which I have been for over a year now. But the other day I read the leaflet out of boredom and it states clearly that you mustn't use them everyday.

Can anyone comment on this? I'm very confused.

I have some sort of bowel disorder that causes chronic constipation - had this for over 20 years - never really been given for name for the conditions but spent about a decade going to hospitals. I have used suppositories daily for probably a decade. They are completely harmless. The packet probably just says that to try to stop people becoming dependent on them if they have normal bowels but a temporary bout of constipation. If you have a chronic bowel disorder anyway it doesn't really matter.

If you find the suppositories don't help you could ask for a colonic irrigation system. I tend to get a build up and the GS can't help to get it all out, so I use the irrigation system when that happens. If the GS work for you then keep using those instead, as they are better. The irrigation system can give you wind and bloating later in the day for reasons I don't really understand! I had to argue for the irrigation system, but it has been invaluable to me. I think the company who makes it is called Coloplast.

Your reply is really reassuring. Sorry to hear about your chronic constipation. Interesting about the colon irrigation. I found that doing a pre colonoscopy moviprep was really wonderful in terms of how I felt afterwards.

Have you tried kefir and probiotics?
Have you tried taking basil seeds daily (not the same as chia seeds)
I say this because I tried everything with my godawful constipation, and my dad has also suffered for over 30 years.
I started having this breakfast :oats with coconut milk and water, pear without skin, cup ful rocket, a kiwi and a teaspoon of basil seeds (from an Indian shop also called thukmania or thukhmalang) with a glass of water. Half an hour later mint tea.

Constipation and all the hell that went with it, bleeding, straining, feeling full etc gone. Also working for dad.

I also have a shot glass of kefir in the afternoon, but a really high quality one from online order with a biokult capsule.
